Portfolio Development Class

Drawing, painting, sketchbooks, art techniques, and applications will be emphasized. Students will engage in a thorough portfolio development process that strengthens skills in observation, memory, and creativity.
This class meets once a week. From September through January, the primary focus is on developing strong portfolio-level drawing skills, with an emphasis on drawing media such as charcoal, pencil, and pen and ink. Students will draw, paint, sculpt, and print while exploring both traditional and non-traditional subject matter related to fine art and design. Instruction also includes the study of major artists and art movements throughout art history.
Beginning in February, the class expands into a broader creative arts approach, incorporating additional materials and processes such as clay and mixed media. This phase encourages experimentation, interdisciplinary art-making, and personal expression, while continuing to build upon the strong foundational and portfolio skills developed earlier in the year.

Portfolio Preparation Classes
The portfolio prep class is from September to the end of January, then it becomes a creative arts class from February through the end of May.
Mondays 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm Recommended for elementary students
Thursdays 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm Recommended for middle school students
Limited to 14 students per class
All materials are included. Students must purchase their own sketchbook.
Classes are not prorated and no refunds after attending a class. Classes run and are paid on a monthly basis. You may sign up one month at a time, and class starts at the beginning of the month. If you are purchasing using a credit card the fees for transaction will not be refunded 3.9%. If you pay in cash or check, you get a full refund.
It is highly recommended in order to develop an outstanding portfolio to attend classes starting in the late summer and maintain attendance through January. We also recommend continuing as to maintain a consistent practice to keep up the skills before attending the art magnet program.
